Sugar Beet Breeding Research

Breeding research has always been key to Strube UK’s success in creating outstanding new varieties of sugar beet.  Our sugar beet breeding work requires detailed and accurate knowledge of sugar beet plants, their genome and the properties embedded within them. It also requires a comprehensive understanding of their physical and biochemical characteristics, as well as their physiological functions.  To facilitate these in-depth researches, Strube have a significant in-house research team who regularly collaborate on international breeding projects thus gaining valuable insight into cutting edge, global sugar beet insights.

Armed with this research information we can select and recombine specific, desirable sugar beet plant traits. This in turns allows us to create new variations within our plant populations, variations that form the basis for the development of new sugar beet varieties.  This detailed laboratory research done, we then work on testing and screening methods so we can recognize disease-resistance and improve the overall quality of Strube UK’s sugar beet varieties.  The final stage of research is a process of optimized field testing techniques and breeding methods which helps improve the efficiency of our work and speed up the delivery of improved beet varieties to you, our growers.
